One of my favorite things to do is let you guys know about new (to me) authors I discover. I used to do a “Three Questions” series where I asked each writer three questions more or less tailored to them. I’m reviving that and Victor is up at bat first!!
First, you can find Victor’s work here – https://substack.com/@serialassemblerofwords. For those of you who don’t know, Substack is an excellent forum for authors to put there work on. I’ve found a welcoming community there.
Second, a little about the man. “Victor Jimenez is described as a polymath by his friends. He has a wide body of knowledge and an esoteric skill set. A veteran of multiple decades in the defense industry, he lives in Florida, which provides him with a wealth of stories and experiences. He has traveled widely for his job, giving him an appreciation for the diversity of his fellow humans. His wife encourages him to pursue his dream of being a writer as does his sixty-pound lapdog, Xena. Recently, he sold his first story “Blue” to Amazing Stories where it came in second in a Reader’s Choice poll and was selected for inclusion in a “Best of” Anthology.”
Finally, on with the questions!
1) How does your ethnic/cultural background affect/inform your storytelling, if it does?
It leads to different observations and language usage. I don’t put the words in quite the right order. I am always having to go back and change where I put adjectives and adverbs. My cultural sensibilities lead me to have different importance to things to emphasize. like familial relations.
2) Why did you choose to publish your fiction on Substack?
I apparently don’t write for the current crop of people who buy fiction. I felt somebody would like the things I write about like truth, honor, duty. And love. Always love. 3)
3) What has been your biggest challenge as a writer?
Convincing myself to keep going. Pretty much do this with very limited support by wonderful friends.
